Dr. Ralph Nyadu-AddoIt gives me great pleasure as the Team Leader in welcoming all of you to the Department of Publishing Studies (DPS), KNUST, website.

Publishing Studies Department (DPS) has the reputation of providing quality training for students to enable them to become intellectually, morally, emotionally, and socially sound. Thus, in consonance with the university’s mission, our curriculum equips students to be innovative, entrepreneurial, and dynamic leaders in a rapidly changing world.

As the only degree-awarding department in publishing and printing in the West African Sub-region, we have the onerous responsibility of manpower training and development for the publishing, printing, book design & illustration as well as other creative art industries for national development. Therefore, the tenet of mission we set ourselves to educate students and industry practitioners is more relevant than ever today as the nation seeks.

Publishing is the activity of making information, literature, music, software, and other content available to the public. Traditionally, the term refers to the creation and distribution of printed works, such as books, newspapers, and magazines. However, with the advent of digital information systems and the internet, the Department runs undergraduate and postgraduate courses to meet the emerging trend and market needs. Our dynamic courses is geared towards employability and leadership combining both soft and hard skills. With a strong industry inputs including compulsory one-semester internship in the third year, it always gives our graduate an edge over the others.

The Department also has a number of linkages with both local and international universities, organizations, and industries. In order to meet market demand, build a strong industry and alumni network, many of whom are engaged in various sectors of national economies around the globe, the department intends to have a series of activities such as interactions with Alumni, Time with the Masters Series, Establishing Biennial International Conference on the Publishing / Print Media, New Media / Design, etc. (Theme: The Publishing Value Chain), Establishing a research Center in Publishing / New media /Information /Print media, Merger of Joint program with KSB / Media and Communication Science / GIJ / Foreign Universities, Establishing an International Cultural Center among others.

In respect of this, I invite you now to take a tour of this website and see what the department has to offer.
